Bio

Jimmy Humbucker (Simon)

My name is Simon, Jimmy is my music alias.

I'm a folk-influenced singer-songwriter from just outside Toronto, ON, and I began writing, recording, and publishing my music independently on streaming services in 2018 with the release of "¡La Niña!"

I was diagnosed with Tourette's syndrome, a common neurological condition characterized by involuntary motor and vocal movements known as tics.

Since beginning my music journey in 2014, I have found solace in music as a therapeutic way to navigate my symptoms and diagnosis.

Today, I am proud to say I am not the only one to come out with this condition as a professional musician, and I'm proud to know I am not alone in this fight as a musician battling the same condition, just as other great artists on stage battle it as well.

Like many artists, the COVID-19 pandemic presented significant challenges for my music career. During that time, I stepped back from publishing and writing to prioritize my mental health and explore other professional paths, nearly walking away from music altogether. However, through the gradual release of new singles in the years that followed, I began rebuilding my confidence and reconnecting with my creative voice.

However, since COVID-19 was declared a pandemic, I released a series of singles over the following year and slowly began to rebuild my confidence as a writer.

In 2022, I wrote a song called "Road to Ruin" about a very rough time in my life, and it lifted my confidence in writing music to full capacity once again.

My musical style is an intriguing fusion of folk, singer-songwriter aesthetics, and alternative/pop-punk rock. Drawing inspiration from a diverse array of artists, from City and Colour to later-era Green Day, my sound is uniquely mine.

I’ve been actively writing and recording music for over a decade. My journey began in 2010, performing at open-mic nights across Oakville, Mississauga, Toronto, and the surrounding communities. I am a member of SOCAN and was previously affiliated with the Nashville Songwriters Association International (NSAI). Early in my career, I was invited to perform alongside the NSAI Toronto Chapter at the Tin Pan North Festival, celebrating the craft of songwriting.

My initial three self-produced albums, namely "¡Little One!," "La Niña," and "QuaranTunes," encapsulate a decade-long odyssey of independent songcraft.

I remain steadfast in my commitment to pushing the boundaries of alternative folk rock, characterized by my distinctive pop-punk-infused vocals and experimental sonic explorations.
